Youthful Manjushri on a Lotus Throne

This work was likely produced for Chinese use. This unusual representation of Manjushri shows him as a child, with a plump face and the five topknots of childhood, known in China as wuji wenshu. A foliate necklace with settings for gemstones adorns his youthful figure.
